Take a trip east out of Edmonton for about 30 miles to get to this unique historical attraction. The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village consists of:

• 34 historic buildings that have been gathered from around east-central Alberta
• The buildings have been assembled in 43 different theme areas to show visitors the lifestyle and culture of Ukrainian settlers who arrived prior to the 1930s.

Ask a costumed guide any question you have about the displays when you’re at the Railway Town site, Rural Community, and the Farmstead. If you’re visiting the area during the first weekend of July, you’ll be able to participate in the annual Ukrainian Pysanka Festival that’s held at the Village.

There you’ll find music, dance, displays, parades and authentic Ukrainian food. Here’s something to write home about: The “world’s largest Easter Egg” measures 31 feet tall and is displayed on the east end of the town’s main street. The egg is decorated with colorful pieces of aluminum.

The Village is 2 miles east of Elk Island National Park, so you may want to plan and visit them both.
