You’ll never get bored in this capital city. The city of
Edmonton features the longest stretch of urban parkland in Canada
and boasts over 70 golf courses including Victoria Golf Course,
Canada's oldest municipal golf course which began in 1907.
The Arts district is full of interesting places to visit. Edmonton
is renowned as a shopper’s haven because Alberta is the
only province in Canada without a provincial sales tax.
There are a lot of things to see and do in Edmonton, and here
are some places you should look into:

Edmonton Mall
the West Edmonton Mall is the world's largest shopping and
entertainment center. Just ask the Guinness Book of World
Records! 800 stores, more than 110 restaurants, 26 movie
theaters and 7 Theme Park attractions all under one roof.

Government House
The Alberta Government House was once used
as the residence of Alberta's Lieutenant Governors. Today
it is used for government conferences.

Legislature
The Alberta Legislature is the seat of Alberta's provincial
government and the province's foremost historical building.
This stately Edwardian building was built in 1912 on the
site of the original Fort Edmonton. It overlooks the river.

Art Gallery
If you appreciate art in a variety of mediums, you’ll
enjoy your visit to the Edmonton Art Gallery. The Edmonton
Art Gallery offers a superb collection of over 5,000 historical
and contemporary works of art showcasing regional, national
and international artists.
Elk
Island National Park
Elk Island National Park is located one hour east of Edmonton,
off Highway 16 but the drive is worth it. The park is huge
– 75 square miles - and is Canada's only National
Park completely surrounded by a fence
Fort
Edmonton Park
Fort Edmonton Park is the largest living history park in
Canada, reconstructing what life was like at the old Hudson's
Bay Company fort and the surrounding town, circa 1885.
Klondike
Jet Boat Tours
Take a history-filled tour of Edmonton's North Saskatchewan
River Valley in a specially designed jet boat. Tours run
seven days a week, starting at 11 a.m
Muttart
Conservatory
The Muttart Conservatory is nestled in the scenic North
Saskatchewan River Valley and is comprised of four glass
pyramids, each of which holds the botanical treasures of
a distinctive climatic zone.
Old
Strathcona Historic Area
Old Strathcona is located south of the river, by 82nd Avenue
(Whyte Ave.) and 104th Street. This unique historical area
was once the town of Strathcona and boasts a variety of
historical buildings dating from 1891.

Provincial
Museum of Alberta
This excellent museum is one of Canada's most popular ones
and is located in an attractive setting. Make sure you include
this in your plans! Rice
Street Market
The Rice Street Market was established even before Edmonton
became a city. It served Edmontonians as a meeting and shopping
place for 64 years before the market was relocated in 1965
to 97 Street and 102 Avenue, where it still stands today.
River
Valley Parks
The River Valley Parks is a series of parks joined together
to build the largest stretch of urban parkland in North America.
Rutherford
House
Rutherford House, at 11153 Saskatchewan Drive, was the home
of Alberta's first premier, Alexander C. Rutherford. It’s
an interesting place to visit, as the home has been restored
to its post-Edwardian elegance, complete with costumed interpreters
re-enacting Alberta life from the early 1900s. Sir
Winston Churchill Square
The focus of the Arts District is this 4-block area where
you’ll find many of Edmonton’s major institutions.
Bordered by 99 and 100 Streets and 102 and 102A Avenues, this
square is a popular place among visitors and locals alike
Strathcona
Farmer's Market
The Strathcona Farmer's Market is located at 10310 83rd Avenue,
in the heart of Old Strathcona. Once a depot for city busses
and trolley cars, the majestic brick building now houses one
of the most successful indoor markets in Canada, with thousands
of small producers and customers every Saturday. TELUS

Cultural Heritage Village
Take a trip east out of Edmonton for about 30 miles to get
to this unique historical attraction. Ukrainian
Museum of Canada
Learn more about the Ukrainian people when you visit this
museum. The museum features traditional Ukrainian cultural
items including costumes, hand-painted Easter eggs, dolls,
tapestries and paintings. Valley
Zoo
Edmonton's Valley Zoo is a 70-acre zoological park with more
than 100 exotic, endangered and native species; the zoo is
located 10 minutes east of West Edmonton Mall. |
